Ban The Burka...

Kinda getting tired of references to the hijab. The reality on the street with your average non-muslim is that no one is concerned about the hijab. Feel free to wear that to your heart's content. The issue with the burka for the vast majority of non-muslims who are concerned about it - as I see it - is a security issue in various areas where NO ONE else can wear a "disguise". I have ZERO issue with muslim women wearing it in their day to day lives, but anything that POTENTIALLY jeopardises my safety is a concern. The harsh reality is that our military are at war with sections of this faith. On the other hand, many muslims are at war with every single one of us.

  1. I think Muslim women would rejoice if it was banned. That way they wouldn't have to wear the damn thing anymore but also wouldn't get stoned to death in front of a cheering crowd. That shit's gotta be hot.

  2. Indeed, it does. Especially black. Screw that. But if THEY want it banned then speak up and do your own fighting and ask for help. Otherwise it's not my business.

  3. Back when I was married, my husband thought he was going to get sent to Iraq for some shit with the IAEA (this was before we invaded Iraq). I told him in all seriousness he should wear a burka. Otherwise, as a lily-white, blue-eyed American, he would have been a prime target. I agree with you about the potential security threat.

  4. It's the perfect disguise. You can't see them, you're not allowed to see them, they can hide shit under it, and you can't see their body language. Worst thing to come across in regards to security.

  5. Sooo...if my religion says I have to keep my bike helmet on when I go into the servo to pay for my petrol (as I may not reveal my pulchritudinous visage to just anyone) will that be ok?

Curiously, I don't believe the Koran has any reference to the necessity of wearing a burqa anyway - it just say something about dressing modestly from memory.

  6. Unless you're muslim I reckon any interpretation of their good book is irrelevant. Any yes, the infamous motorbike helmet wearing religion should get that concession.

  7. Yeah - we've actually had laws as far back as the Victorian period banning the public wearing of balaclavas. Can't see that the burka warrants an exemption.

I'm all for religious freedom. But living in a society calls for compromise of many kinds. Hijab is fine. Burqa isn't - unless you're prepared to be refused entrance to banks, restaurants, shopping centres, cinemas, and all the other places where the balaclava and the motorbike helmet are not permitted.

  8. I concede to your and Flinthart's point but has there ever been a case of a suicide bomber hiding explosives in her Burqa?

  9. Oh without doubt Nat. Guarantee there's been suicide bombers in the mid-east that has used the burka, but it's not just about terrorism, it's also about robberies and such. That's what I meant in regards to it being the perfect 'disguise' a coupla comment up. One fool did it not so long ago and you PRAY it doesn't happen again for their sake.
