Obama and Palestinians.

I think it's important for the outside world to observe the region so as to avoid the Palestinians finding themselves wept out to sea and the Israeli's suddenly finding themselvs with lovely new digs on the coast and all sweeping the ground with their straw brooms looking at the camera going, "WHAT Palestinians?".

The ACTUAL inflence someone like Obama has on the region amounts to nothing more than propaganda. After Obama's speech - earlier this month? - in Cairo, some Palestinians love him for comparing them with the struggle of the African Americans . Israel is just going, "LOL Yeah, as if...he didn't say that...".

Can anyone tell me why the Israeli/Palestinian drama is SO important to America?. They've been endlessly offering pointless envoys to the region since Israel was created. The only way the region will fix is if fundamentalists from both sides stop being fundamental. Just WILL NOT happen.

  1. Moko, I don't mean this in any way but as a comment of information. The reason it is such a big part of the U.S. "Foreign" policy (as it were) is the large Jewish population in the U.S. Heavy money=heavy political influence. Nothing more. And you are correct...it just ain't gonna get fixed.

  2. another angle is the unemployment rate in Palestine has bred a huge disenfranchised population, particularly amongst the young. bored kids listen to anybody who gives them a direction and someone to blame for their problems. It is areas like this where front line soldiers are recruited for our fundy friends. We (the western world) need to perceived as less antagonistic. So Obamas speech there was a start. A slow start, but a start nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  3. J ~ Yeah, agreed. Deleted a paragraph about endless meetings Obama would find himself in if took a hard line.

U ~ It WAS a start. I notice Dinner Jacket basically told him to go fuck himself. Agree about the disenfranchised bit. I still reckon moderates need to pull their finger out if they want something different...on both sides.

  4. The U.S is a very confusing place for everyone being that it's core religious views are Christian but in THAT sect they worship a Jew.

Christians are told that the Jews are the "chosen" people yet by and large many of them believe that their very Savior was killed by the Jews.

It's really fucked up when you think about it.
While the Christians in America will stand by Israel they do it only because the Bible tells them to and they are afraid of being smote or something.

I think God's cool and he/she/it probably doesn't care about any of this nonsense.

  5. I don't really buy the "but Jesus was killed by the Jews" argument. Maybe 'tongue in cheek' yeah, but on the whole Jesus probably seen as a nutter by the majority of the Jews. I mean, he'd only really been preaching for fuck all time before he was crucified. Definitely not enough time to CONVINCE all that many what he was about. Even less, I'd suggest, if you belive Mel Gibson.

Think you're fairly right on the rest of your comment. Cheers.

Speaking as a non-jewish american who supports Israel, I can assure you that there is more to it than the typical powerful jewish lobby theory which BTW, really teeters on the edge of being the typical jewish conspiracy theory. And ignorant comments like yours only give people like me more reason to support Israel.

  7. PUMA, so you wouldn't mind if we get rid of the Jewish Americans..finish the job!.

DO Not tell me those fuckers are not a force and fail to exert themselves, if you think that by their mere disappearance lets say, the US affliction for fucking around with Israel would stop YOU WOULD BE CORRECT. But lets face it, YOU DON'T, they are a power house, they do support Politics and saying that they do not, or would not, is sheer fucking stupidity at best, FUCKING KNUCKLE DRAGGIN DUMB ARSE FUCKWADED CRETINISIUM at worst. ( PS, I think you are the LATTER)

I have nothing, absolutely nothing against Jews or the Israeli's, but can tell you that as a country with BUDGET ISSUES, I would cut off supply. Its Billions of dollars in AID pumped in by the US. That's Political power doing that and a lot is JEWISH, not all though.

FUCK OFF to wherever the hell it was ya came from , its ignorant fucks like you that get people mired in shit..fucking tosser!.

And lets not forget shall we, just how much damage they are doing over there, the Jewish state that is, to OTHER STATES, I'm not saying they have no right to defend themselves either, but why do i get the feeling that given half a chance they would inflict their own holocaust on some other people.....

  10. Um, right. So all those Jewish sounding blokes in powerful positions in US government, business and industry aren't really bothered by what goes on with Israel? Or are they Pakistanis in disguise?

Puma, go back and read what JJ said. PROPERLY. Particularly the bit about 'I don't mean this in any way but as a comment of information'. Then take off your fucking tinfoil hat, cancel your subscription to Conspiracy Theorists Weekly, go into the room of mirrors and take a good hard fucking look at yourself.

  12. I’m sure that there’s more to it than ‘There are a lot of wealthy and influential Jews in the US’, but that seems to be the main factor. Please explain the other reasons, Puma, so we can judge for ourselves what part they play.

The US is probably the only reason Israel exists, thanks to their political, financial and military clout, and the Israelis damned well know it (as do other Middle Eastern countries of course: hence the antagonism). In the last decade or so the US has distanced itself somewhat from its earlier position, largely thanks to its oil dependency, and hopefully this trend towards increasing conciliation will eventually lead to Israel becoming more flexible.

And by the way, no, I don’t think that the Christian ‘Jesus was a Jew but Jews killed Jesus’ thing is a factor here. Christians do have a slight problem with this one, but it’s hardly a major issue, at least not relating to Israel.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think Israel would've had the backing from someone else at the start if the Yanks didn't. It would've been a vastly different story, for sure. Possibly one that has a communist flavour to it, or something. Maybe America didn't have that much of a choice BECAUSE of Russia. IT was their idea, after all.

The only reason the Palestinians are still there is because of you and me watching it on CNN. You'd probably see Lebanon with a different sort of landscape and Syria in an operation attempting to retrieve their testicles from somewhere around the southern side of Greece.

IMO I don't believe 'Christians' have that much of an issue with the Jews killed Jesus shit. Previously voiced my idea why.

    ReplyDelete
  14. to be honest it was that long aga, I couldn't care if one of the muppets killed jesus, I mean, what effin bearing will it have now, aside from a lot of reprints

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well all I can say is that if you don't believe Christians in America don't have a problem with the whole "Jew/Jesus/deal" then tell them to stop saying the shit when no Jews are around.

I work for Jewish doctors and work WITH about 45 Southern Christian women. Although most of them adore our owners, at the end of the day they think that they will all burn in hell because they don't believe Jesus is their Savior.

I'm privvy to this info simply because both of my Grandfathers were Southern Baptist preachers and the gals have made the mistake in the past that just because I was raised to believe all this shit that I actually do. In several uncomfortable conversations after "The Passion" came out I fully informed them that I DON'T believe in that shit.

Trust me. Many Christian Americans do resent the Jews and the fact that they are bound by God to help Israel. They may only say it when the lights are out and the doors are closed but I assure you that the sentiment is there.

I remember several sermons where my Grandpa wiped the spittle from the corners of his mouth as he preached "Whoa to the Nation who forsakes Israel!!!!"

    I worship Bob Marley personally.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And this is not to say that ALL Christians in America feel this way. I'm certain that there are several who actually believe what they're religion teaches "Judge not lest ye be judged". I just don't meet that many.

    ReplyDelete
  17. And the first sentence should've read "if you don't believe Christians in America HAVE a problem" not "don't have a problem"

Duh....never comment until after TWO cups of coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah, Bob Marley rules....and Hendrix.

I didn't say they didn't, I said they didn't have THAT MUCH. Sorta referring to it globally speaking. Sure, there's the hypocritical ones that are 'totally god faring' but then are totally intolerant and judgemental. Judge not lest ye be judge excluding us casue we don't count RIGHT.....you know, you work with them.

MY family are freaky God freaks...ministers, missionaries, the works, but not once did I hear Jews being blamed for knocking over the messiah from them. 'We' believe in him, they didn't. They had the orthodox dudes with their fire and brimstone. According to them Jesus was an upstart, not the Messiah.

Even Jesus said "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do". Can't second guess Christ now, can we?.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No I absolutely get what you're saying about "globally". Maybe it's just more of an ignorance that's bred here in the states.

"Father forgive them, for they know not what they do"

If only alot of people actually truly felt that way and not just say they do because they're afraid they'll go to hell.

Everyone seems to warp religion into whatever fits their personal views instead of what that specific religion actually teaches. (I'm talking to you fundamentalists!)

I think Jesus, Allah, Buddah....whatever probably thinks that alot of their so-called followers are retarded.

    Hendrix Rules!

  20. Okay US Isreali policy class 101.

the holocaust is one of the primary reasons for the US intial support of isreal. then as time moved on and Arab nationalism was on the rise (supported by the CCCP) the US needed a counterweight and that was Israel. The fact is though that israel trusts no-one and so they obtained their own nuclear weapons. the pro-isreal lobby in the US stopped any real criticisms oe reudctions in aid. In fact only 1 US president has cut aid and that was George Bush (Snr) and that scared the shit out of the isrealis however then Saddam decided to invade Kuwait and Clinton got in.

The only way to stop nutjobs like Hamas is to raise the living standard of the palestinians that can't happen whilst Israel maintains astranglehold on Gaza and the West Bank. Basically Isreal is no better that Apartheid era Soutn Africa but it uses it's immense lobbying power to offset criticism.

Isreals policies help perpetuate the 'Arabs are victims' meme that runs throughout the ME and helpes keep anti-jewish sentiment high and sustain quite nasty regimes whcih in turn israel needs to defend itself against. it's one big vicious self reinforcing wheel, and the onyl way to stop it is to get israel to start playing ball.

BTW the reason that the religious right supports Isreal is that they believe that the jews have to return to isreal before armageddon can occur. Nice and logical political thought eh?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey mate.

"...to stop nutjobs like Hamas is to raise the living standard of the palestinians..."

Yeah, for sure, but that's part of it, IMHO. The moderate need also stop believing that if they don't follow the Fundi clerics they'll go to hell....either on earth if the clerics find enough weapons and support to crush and persecute the moderates - (like in Iran, right now, BRAVO to them), or in the after life. Just as much as the moderate Jews in Israel need to shut the Orthodox Jews up. Problem is, the Palestinians voted Hamas in. Stupid fucken thing to do IMO.

"Isreals policies help perpetuate the 'Arabs are victims' meme that runs throughout the ME..."

It does for sure, also the Arabs need to find some sorta happy medium. Netanyahu offered something to take to negotiating table. Hes been told to fuck off. Same as Dinner Jacket just told Obama to 'blow him'.

It's not just the 'religious right' that supports Israel in that regard (armageddon). But no point in debating that. CNN have claimed vantage points in the Valley of Megiddo. They've been there for a couple of decades.

What, I guess you want to have your cake and eat it as well, for fuck sakes, make up your god dam mind. Buts its dumb fucks who wish to continually cry foul about " THE Holocaust" and Jewish persecutions pre WW2, that fucking pisses people off. On behalf of my Zion hating government overlords I PROMISE the military-industrial complex who have been spying on you ever since the aliens abducted you and probed your arse aren't actually interested in manipulating your brainwaves. Frequency too low.

  31. Yobbo, you seem reasonable and intelligent and I actually regret my earlier comment towards you. Havock on the other hand, is one of the biggest morons I've ever encountered on the internet and he could shove his CAPs up his ass sideways for all I care. He's better matched up hurling insults at SJS. NM though, My feelings about Israel will remain unchanged as long as they are surrounded by lord knows how many TENS OF millions who harbor the thought that the holocaust was a myth. I've traveled to the middle east and the level of ignorance and hate levelled at Israel is not reciprocated. IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hatred goes both ways, though. It's pretty hard not to hate the bloke whose boot is on your throat. It's easier not to hate him if he takes it off, and even easier if he apologises and lets someone give you medical attention. And it's hard to keep hating him if he starts funding schools and hospitals and stuff. We're still at the "boot on throat" stage, more than ever since the last election.

Before you start levelling accusations of anti-semitism at anyone who suggests vaguely that, yanno, the Palestinians might have some cause for complaint, at least get across the dissenting views among Israelis themselve, Uri Avnery being the most obvious example. There are plenty of folks who actively dislike having murderous thugs act in their name.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anon, Puma, You must have traveled a small fraction of the ME, there are most certainly plenty who hate israel, perhaps not as many as there once was and I could say Israel has assisted in that achievement. As for splashing the " we don't recognise there was a holocaust" here about, well you are barking up the wrong tree my friend, we have not said that here ever, I most certainly have not and there mere inference I believe that or have doubts about its legitimacy pisses me off no end.

You are most assuredly in the wrong realm my freind if thats what you seek, best retire forthwith.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Damian is absolutley right about the amount of bile behind attacks on some commentators/academics (usually jewish) who question Israels continued beligernace vis a vis the Palestinians.

Look having the IDF whack a rapidly developing nuke site in syria is fine, using ol willy pete against hamas guerillas who hide amongst a civilian populace is not. Ol' Will just ain't that clever.

Annon I've also been to the mid-east and my father worked there for years and my brother served out there. I am more than well aware at the anti-jewish sentiment out there and also how the press is virulently anti-jewish. But there is a very good reason for that. Plain and simple attacks on someonelse to stop the populace questioning the authorities.

Lack of conflict and a general level of good government would remove alot of antisemitc behavior by Arabs and Iranians

    ReplyDelete

  36. Anon, Puma, Adidas, whatever... I appreciate your retraction. And that's all well and good but do you actually have an answer to the question that's not a bewildering and paranoid straw-man routine re H being an anti-Semitic Holocaust denier.

The question, as stated, is "Can anyone tell me why the Israeli/Palestinian drama is SO important to America?"

If it's not, as you suggest, any question of there being any Jewish influence on US foreign policy as a result of the US-based population of same - what IS the reason for the US being obsessed with this conflict, in preference to the continuing shitfights in Africa, Latin America, Korea or elsewhere in the world?

Have I insulted you personally yet? Didn't think so. I like you but just shut up and butt out. I'm already outnumbered 5 to 1 ya prick.

    As per Yobbo:

"The question, as stated, is "Can anyone tell me why the Israeli/Palestinian drama is SO important to America?"

To which J and Yobbo replied:

"LARGE(emphasis mine) Jewish population in the U.S. Heavy money=heavy political influence. NOTHING MORE (emphasis mine).

So, Yobbo, what I objected to was the idea that America's interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was based on the "large" jewish "powerful" jewish population and "nothing more". Please note the quotation marks. At last count, jews represented upwards of 2% of the american population.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok, I don't really have a dog in this fight, because arguing over this stuff is way to hard for me. I have hanging around waiting for an opporunity to say "it's not paranoia if everyone is trying to kill you", but I can't seem to work it into the conversation.

I will ask Puma one question, if Jews make up about 2% of the population, what percentage of wealth, elected politicians and special interest lobby groups/spending do you reckon they have?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Reading my comment, clearly grammer and spelling is not a strength I should be banking on.

  45. Puma has a point the presumed world jewish population is nowhere as big as the actual one.

basically twice as many jews live in the diaspora compared with the population of Israel.

So your talking about 9 million jews world wiode of whcih about half live in the US.

Naut, the Jewish community collectively, has an undue amount of political influence in the US system. it only takes a look at the costs associated with fielding a presidential candidate to see just how big the cash basket is. The Jewish demographic is not the only one, let me state that very clearly, but few, with perhaps the exception of Taiwan are lobbying for another country at the top tier of the US political system.

What we have found is that arguments proposed, have little basis, have a crystalline structure once prodded and to be honest, are very fucking random, hell, illogical even.

OH OK, It’s the reason Billions of US dollars are still be pumped into an arrogant fucking Israel economy, otherwise they fuckers would have been left to fend for themselves years ago, it might also have knocked the arrogant as fuck attitude out of them as well.

But you have still not answered any of the questions.

  52. Figured Puma must have been dodging the question cos he had a cogent, well-argued response already posted on his blog as to the mitigating factors in the involvement of the US in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, aside from protecting the interests of Israel on behalf of the expatriate Jewish population, which he has identified as not the primary driver for their interest.

    Turns out not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Look during the Cold War Israels actions were excusable. However seeing how the cold war actually ended nearly 20 years ago their continued hard heaeded attitude is wearing micron thin.

There is no real threat to drive the jews into the Med. Yes Iran is a threat but by working WITH other countries Israel has a chance to reduce that threat.

To this day I just can't see how Israel can't see the irony in the way they treat the Palestinians

    ReplyDelete
  54. How would you tackle it, Chaz, considering the ideological dynamics of all concerned?.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just cause I heard this recently on the news......

  56. Its rather interesting to look at the Israeli issues, one wonders just how much of their current situation is really a result of their fuck ups. That’s mismanagement of their neighbour’s relations with themselves, input from their financially laden benefactors in the US and their political influence.

Shore Israel can say we were persecuted, we are Jews, everybody hates us, or at least the majority and as soon as you say, that’s crap, you are NOT NOW persecuted, they will straight away slap the big one on ya.

I Guess the holocaust was a figment of the imagination. You deny we were persecuted, almost wiped out. RA RA RA FUCKING RA!.

After a while it becomes old hat, utilising passed sins of others, as cause for your current actions will eventually remove the very support you seek, Further it’s a breading ground for additional dissent, that’s what’s now playing itself out on their borders.

Aside from being as a Nation, arrogant fuckers on the world stage, supported massively with US money, plus whatever is funnelled across from NON Gov US sponsors, they have used extreme force, often levels far above that which is required. Invaded countries, killed civilians and all really in the name of , “ WE ARE PROTECTING OURSELVES, we ARE persecuted, haven’t you heard of the holocaust”.

At this point in time, they reap what they sow, leave the fuckers on the vine, as a Nation, I guess they are rather irresponsible, the sooner the OLD guard are removed the better, though to be honest, I am not so sure the current generations will do much better.

  61. H ~ If I was Palestinian you'd probably find me laying on a table just outta sight from the window of a house sniping a settlement across 'the valley'. If I was ISraeli you'd prbably find me bowling around the joint in an Abrams.....thing is, the sitrep for that joint is SNAFU. Never gonna change.

Are the Israeli's any better than the people who persecuted them?. History will be the judge of that. Is there a better way to handle it?. They ain't EVER gonna give up their land without some nukes going off either way.

HEidi ~ Ever heard of, "DOn't take this the wrong way but..."?. You can say ANYTHING so long as you put that bit at the start.

  64. U stop moving around so much I can't get a bead on you!!

moko, look it needs a non-corrupt younger generation sabra. To say 'enoughs enough. No more favors for the orthodox jews, no more opting out of conscription so they can go to bible school' (sorry can't remeber what they are called to late in the day). No more settlements for the loony yank immigrants.

Then cut a few deals land for peace, and initally no getting rid of the nukes. Therefore you've got the velvet glove encasing the enriched PU gauntlet.

I think you'll find that there's alot of our gen and the gen X'ers out there who are sick and tired of how the immigrants are runnign the show. thats why there are so many dissertions and refusals of service in the IDF.

    IMHO
