The Seppo health reforms.

What's the problem with it?.

Is the "issue" regarding "socialist healthcare" and the vibe that conjures actually legit?.

  1. Been wondering the same. It smacks really strongly of a bunch of people with health insurance company shares worried about their investments, though.

  2. Death by taxes.

My sister's friend was reading the full text and if all goes to plan, they are planning on yanking about 60% of your paycheck. There was also a blurb about the government having access to your bank accounts..
    Scary stuff.

I never wanted it to pass because do you know how many illegal immigrants will now have access to healthcare? Fuck a good majority of regular "born in the U.S.A" can't get decent healthcare because that would mean they couldn't pay the other bills that are piling up.

  3. Rightio, one for the us and them vote and one valid one for the taxes from AK. I see the concern there if that's actually the facts.

Plenty of people who aren't born here get free health care. Like you, come here with a visa and you'll get it at the hospitals. I know the Irish do anyway.

  4. 60% seems a tad unlikely

and it seems that the healthcare industry just got a big shot in the arm. Interesting to compare the amount of the health care dollar spent on 'administration' under the public system in australia vs the private system in the US?

  5. Simple, the Republicans are in the pocket of the health industry lobbyists. Everything else that flows from that is piss and wind. Drum up a bunch of bullshit hysteria about fascism and insanity, and let stupidity and Fox News do the rest.

  6. Um, AK, you are way off the mark. The medicare tax is slated to rise from 1.45% to 2.35% for people who make more than $200,000 a year, and a marginal increase on investment income of 3.8%. There is however the requirement that everyone purchase insurance who isn't provided such by their employer. lower income folks will receive a subsidy. There's alot of issues I don't have time to mention, but you can find plenty of info out there on the web. I don't think it's gonna be utopia - might be alot of experiences like your "fkn hospital" entry, but IMO it'll be better than what we had before.

  7. And I might add AK that illegals are already receiving treatment in our ERs. Current law prohibits hospitals from refusing them treatment.

  8. And Illegals already get treated AK. It's against the law for a hospital to refuse anyone treatment.

And more to the point Moko, the right wing slime machine is running at 150%. It's amazing the crap they are shoveling. They will stop at nothing.

  10. It's all of the above.

    1. Private insurers profit hugely from overinflated premiums. Republicans and health insurance lobbyists are very much closely linked, and one hand feeds the other. They have the power and money to influence Washington, D.C., as well as the ability to use propaganda to scare the "little people." Throw in "tax hike" or "Communism" and you will automatically get a major demographic of people who will fight against it for their "freedom."

    2. Taxes. As AK mentioned, taxes are real issue for people. No, it's not going to be 60% of your paycheck. But people don't want to educate themselves. It's easier for Joe the Blue Collar Worker to say, "No! I work hard for my money and now the government wants it."

    3. The American Way
There is a very real, underlying fear in our culture of government control. Not to mention a fear of the words "socialism" and the dreaded "communism."

    4. People are short-sighted and selfish. If you are employed and have health insurance, why should my hard-earned dollars go to Joe Welfare and his litter of kids? He needs to Get a Job and take care of his own family.

I should add these are NOT my opinions--personally I firmly believe that EVERYONE has a right to healthcare.

  11. Thanks Puma. Those were the figures I was reading this morning as well.

I could go on about the dramas Cystic Fibrosis patients have in your country regarding receiving help, but it's broken right across the board. Help for everyone, is better than not. There's a zillion stories of people fighting insurance companies.

  13. I should mention I worked for a major insurance company a few years ago and from personal experience found them to be the slimiest, greediest, most heartless beings.

    And I've worked for attorneys.
